A € 1 million subsidy for “Vakschool Technische Installaties Amsterdam”
The ROC in Amsterdam and the local business community set up a training campus to reduce staff shortages in the technical installation sector.
This unique public-private partnership, the Technical School of Technical Installations, has the goal to create a better connection between education and labour market, and reducing the shortage in the sector. The Ministry of Education, Culture and Science recognizes the importance of the campus and has provided a subsidy of more than € 1 million.
The training campus, together with the business community and secondary education, is looking at improving the quality of intermediate vocational education and with it the influx of new students. Innovation is central.
The focus is on more internship places for students, more job guarantees and career opportunities. The city of Amsterdam is being seen as the campus for the students. Entrepreneurship will also play a prominent role on the training campus. After completing their studies, the students often go to work as self-employed and are better prepared for entrepreneurship.
Responding to demand
With the design of the campus, the ROC of Amsterdam and the business community are responding to the structural shortage within the sector. Research (Uneto-VNI) shows that within the next two years more than 3,000 jobs in the technical installation sector cannot be filled in the Netherlands. Companies are taking their responsibility here and are making a substantial financial and substantive contribution. 9 VMBO schools in Amsterdam and the HvA will also participate in the campus.
